    • Marshall House Project

Marshall House Project is a driving soul funk outfit with one foot rooted deep in the pockets of the past and the other fearlessly exploring the deep fry of the future. The sound is an eclectic electric love child: the product of an affair between Jimi Hendrix and The Funky Meters, after a long night of drinking with space aliens and jamming to Bob on the jukebox. MHP delivers a volcanic performance of energetic funk and slinky soul with a psychedelic twist and a chili salt rim. The mission: to create an uplifting dance experience spun full of twists and turns, interlaced with conscious reflective lyrics, expanding, contracting and alive, like a universe unto itself.

The band began as a project. In a house. On Marshall Dr. After years of jams and evolution, the lineup slowly began to crystallizing circa 2012 into its current state. The founder, guitarist and primary singer/songwriter is Sam Cole. There since its inception, his name is synonymous with greasy guitar mastery. Sami writes with a message in mind, and is generous when it comes to sizzling solos, skanky rhythms and blowing minds. On the drums is Matty Tucker. He is powerful and dexterous behind the kit and serves up a plethora of cutty beats, laced with serpentine breaks and multidimensional sensibilities. Putting that shake in your waist and keeping the low end laced is Luis Garcia on the bass. A master in his own rights, he is consistently carving out innovative deep grooves. He can solo with the best of them and never ceases to amaze with quake causin’, booty shaking bass lines. Trombonist Jason Thor brings a wealth of experience having toured with Brian Setzer Orchestra for 7 years and played with the likes of Peter Gabriel, Arturo Sandoval, Poncho Sanchez and more. With a pedal board that rivals most guitarists, Jason expands the sounds of his instrument to the outer reaches while contributing background vocals and tasteful percussion fills. Percussionist Mingo Lewis Jr. toured extensively with Sonoma County’s own reggae band Groundation through the mid-2000s and 2010s and provides a distinct Latin flare to the sound with his congas, timbales, and other assorted percussion instruments.

MHP is one of the premiere funk bands working all over the Bay Area, west coast and beyond. They are consistently gaining momentum, earning fans and extending their reach. The group is constantly adding new original music to their lives shows and honing their craft in order to cultivate a fresh, quality show, every time they take the stage. Simply put, Marshall House Project is a real treat to experience.
